There’s lots to choose from when it comes to our barrel saunas
We’ll start with the variety of sizes before exploring what’s inside – after all, it’s an important criteria. Our most compact HELGA barrel sauna can host from 2 to 4 people inside, and its length is 1.7 m, which means it should fit in most garden spaces. This assortment also consists of 2.4 m, 3 m, 3.5 m, 4 m, 4.8 m, and 5.9 m long barrel saunas. Of course, the smaller the building, the quicker and easier it is to heat up, however, if you have the space for a larger one, your family and friends would probably appreciate the invitation. The conversation will also flow smoother after everyone is relaxed, and the outdoor barrel sauna itself can become a great talking point.
The bigger HELGA models also feature additional spaces to relax and unwind in, which can help maximise the pleasure gained from the experience. For example, you’ll find that some barrel saunas feature panoramic windows, which can cover either the whole wall of the sauna room or half of it, as it depends on the model. This addition adds a nice touch to the sauna space, as the view should create a unique ambience. Check out this smaller HELGA with the panoramic window covering half the wall, and this large HELGA with a full panoramic window.
Why the barrel form is chosen for barrel saunas
There are a few reasons why this structure is so beneficial. First of all, the barrel form makes the space smaller, which means it will take you less time and materials to heat up the barrel sauna and prepare it for your session. Secondly, the shape creates better air circulation that results in the heat spreading evenly throughout the building – a crucial condition that’s needed to enjoy a smooth, rejuvenating atmosphere. Usually, the temperature during a session hits 70°C (it should not exceed 80°C, as it would damage the structure), and the humidity is around 80-100%, so proper air circulation is really important. Such a session reduces pain, improves physical performance, alleviates stress, and it can also temporarily relieve cold symptoms. Of course, it should also be noted that the structure is compact and can be placed anywhere in your garden. The look is unique and visually exciting – the barrel sauna will make your garden the one to watch and to visit.
Barrel saunas crafted to perfection
It’s been found that the best health benefits come from using the barrel sauna from 4 to 7 times per week, with each session taking around 20 minutes. It’s also recommended to rest for at least 10 minutes after each use, and this is where the additional structural elements of HELGA come in. The models that are more than 3.5 m long (including the 3.5 m models) feature a compact changing room right next to the sauna, and quite a few models feature a terrace too. This way, the transition from the steamy room to the outside is smoother and your heartbeat has a chance to slow down and return to normal. Lounging on a terrace also extends the experience with some extra time to relax, as staying too long in the heat can be unhealthy.
Buying a barrel sauna: choosing between conifer and thermowood
We use 46 mm thick conifer wood for the outdoor barrel saunas at Quick-garden.co.uk, which is a good option for the HELGA models due to its natural insulation properties and a pleasant, woody smell. You’ll notice that this is the default option for all of our models, however, if you’d like to upgrade this material to thermowood, you can choose it as an additional purchase and add it to your cart. Thermowood is the superior material, since it’s been already thermo-treated. This makes the material less susceptible to the weather conditions, temperature changes and other factors, plus you will not need to treat it yourself or take care of it as much as you will need to take care of the default untreated conifer material. Thermowood is one of the recommendations that our experts always give to anyone interested in a barrel sauna – if you’d like to hear more expert advice, we’ll definitely touch upon other useful aspects in the remainder of this article.
The barrel sauna heater selection and the difference between them
We offer two types of heaters to heat the barrel sauna with: a wood burner and an electric heater. The wood burners heat the sauna room quicker, while the electric heaters usually take a bit longer (it depends on the model’s power capacity as well). Here at Quick-garden.co.uk, we offer two types of wood burners – ones that can be installed inside the outdoor barrel sauna close to the wall, and ones that are installed into the wall. The latter can be opened from multiple directions – this is why you can use these heaters from a different room. These models are Harvia 20 SL and Harvia M3 SL, and the electric heaters without the additional functionality are Harvia 20 Pro and Harvia M3. Of course, you can also opt for an electric heater, which is the Harvia Vega model. It mounts on the wall easily, is sleek and durable, and spreads the heat evenly throughout the barrel sauna. There are three versions of it, which all feature the stainless-steel construction and other aforementioned benefits – the only difference is that some are less or more powerful than others. In the end, the decision is up to you!
The accessories that will increase the longevity of your barrel sauna
You’ll find many accessories that can accompany your outdoor barrel sauna order, however, there are a few in particular that we usually recommend. For example, either the wood tint or thermowood are worth your consideration. These extras will protect and treat the construction, so that it’s kept in great condition regardless of the elements. The TIKKURILA wood tints add a protective layer and a beautiful colour to the barrel sauna, while thermowood is a more durable material than the default conifer option. What is more, the protective fence for wood burners is also advised for your safety while using the barrel sauna, so you don’t have to worry about getting accidentally burned. This optional extra is also worth your attention if you’re planning to use HELGA with young adults or have guests over. For everyone to get truly comfortable, the seating should provide a good support for your back – you can find the backrests among the extras as well.
